Pacquiao’s Future: Who’s Next?
Wednesday, May 27, 2009
After the swift win against Ricky Hatton, Manny Pacquiao keeps us waiting in excitement
for who he will fight next. Top caliber names of boxing has been pitted for his next fight,
Floyd Mayweather Jr., Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley.
A match with Floyd Mayweather Jr, the former pound-for-pound number one can be very
exciting. For me if this match will push through, this can generate the most exciting fight
of the decade. Both arguably are pound-for-pound the best fighters of this generation.
If Pacquiao would win in this fight then he would solidify his pound-for-pound status.
A 3rd encounter against Juan Manuel Marquez can only give Marquez another chance to
solidify his claim that he has the counter to Pacquiao’s every strength. This fight will be less
of a benefit to Pacquiao compared to Marquez. In the event where of a Pacquiao victory, it
would only remind us that Pacquiao has the power to knock Marquez and that’s it.
Miguel Cotto. Well if Pacquiao fights him at 145 lbs, this opens another weight division for
Pacquiao to add to his collection of weight classes. Cotto is solid and strong but I see Manny’s
speed to be very overwhelming over Cotto’s. If Pacquiao wins against Cotto, Immortality to
Pacquiao’s name is assured.
Shane Mosley is known to have a “Granite Chin”. He woke up everybody from the Margarito Dream.
He is old but still a champion, however he wants to fight Pacquiao at 147 lbs. If Pacquiao fights him,
even if Pacquiao losses, Pacquiao will still be the perfect definition of pound-for-pound. What if
Pacquiao wins? Then, his story will be the best ever written by the boxing sport.
